What you should know about psyllium: The look of the little, shiny brown seeds of a plant, which is frequently met on the Mediterranean reminds of fleas. Therefore the vernacular called them flea seed plantain. Flea seeds are for example in Italy already for a long time known as harmless, natural help against constipation. They contain in their seed cover fibrils, which are at the same time lubricants and swelling agents. In the intestine, they swell very strongly, to the fivefold or sixfold of their volume and stimulate so the peristalsis. In doing so the fibrils have an irritation-alleviating effect due to their gliding ability. Flea seeds are so small and smooth that they can be taken well without that you have to cut up them beforehand.
Fields of application: For the treatment of constipation. Formation of a soft stool, if an eased defecation is wanted, eg with tears in the anal skin, hemorrhoids, after rectal anal operational interferences, during the pregnancy, with irritable colon.
