Maca - small root – big effect
Maca (Lepidium meyenni walp) is a small root tuber that is originated in the Peruvian Andes. It is distantly related to our well-known celery root.
Since primeval times Maca is growing in the rough wilderness of the Andes plateaus, suffering the extreme climate of a vast and hostile landscape. Until this day it is the main bread and butter for the natives in order to escape complete poverty.
In the 16th century Spanish conquistadors brought the root over the sea to Europe. Maca at those times was seen as something so valuable, that it was accepted as regular means of payment by the colonists
One of the main properties of Maca is its high content of essential mineral substances like calcium (400 -550 mg per 100 g), magnesium, phosphorus, iron and also a big portion of iodine. It contains up to 11,8 % of protein and a high level of calcium and phosphorus.
Our Maca is harvested in the Peruvian Andes. A small family farm is responsible for the biological cultivation and production of the root tubers. Tradition, long experience and great passion are the platform of our constant superior quality.
