Since the ancient time Marsh-mallow (althaea officinalis) has been known as an effective medicinal plant against cough.
The name "althaea" comes from the Greek word "altho" and means "to heal". Marsh-mallow is applied as a dissolving and irritation-alleviating remedy with all illnesses of the neck, throat and of the respiratory organs. The mucilages of the Marsh-mallow roots lie down on the irritated mucous membranes of your mouth and throat just like a protective varnish and cushions the tickly throat and make the cough more effective.
