Aronia - the chokeberry, an eatable agrestal fruit stemming from the family of the rowans, is a very treasured nutrition for the birds. The chokeberry is rich in valuable vitamins (provitamine A, vitamine B2, vitamin C and folic acid), minerals and trace elements.
Its intensive blue or magenta colour (anthocyanins and anthocyanids) which is similar to the blueberry or blackberry, contains almost thirty times more antioxidants than red wine. The anthocyanin pigment is known as a recipient of free radicals. It supports the immune system and the metabolism processes.
It is very important for a healthy nutrition to eat a lot of vegetables. This is due to the positive features of secondary plant substances amongst others, polyphenols or flavonoids. These substances occur in many plants as bioactive substances (dyestuffs, flavour additives, tanning agents etc.). As antioxidants they protect its cells against environmental conditions (solar irradiation, undesirable substances like free radicals etc.).
The violet-black chokeberries, which grow in
North America, are now also cultivated in Germany. By nature they contain a lot of secondary plant substances like poyphenols or flavonoids.
