Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is native to the mediterranean region and southwestern asia. It is a member of the family Umbelliferae. It is a highly aromatic herb and is used as a food plant. The bulb, foliage and seeds of the fennel plant are widely used in many of the culinary traditions of the world. Fennel lend a characteristically mild, anise-like flavour.
