Catuaba - magic love potion from the rain forest
Catuaba (Erythroxylon catuaba) belongs to the group of bignoniaceae. Its home is the tropical rainforest of South America. Since only the bark of this tree is used for natural products (like the Lapacho it is continuously growing again) this cultivation method protects the rainforest from being exploited. Centuries ago the Jupi Indios discovered the wonderful properties of the Catuaba tree and named it “Good tree”. Like Lapacho the Catuaba tea is one of the most favourite teas all over Brazil. Before all the stimulating and reviving effect made Catuaba the most renowned aphrodisiac. The red colouring stuff of the Catuaba bark is a well known ingredient of many brazilian refreshing drinks.
The Catuaba is gathered in the uncultivated rainforest (wild collection) regarding the principle of preserving harvesting methods. That means, that only a part of the bark is taken away, the tree gets a chance to recover. The bark is then dried in the sun naturally.
